Default Color Mod Help

Just bought some OEM TSX projectors. Going to put this into my 95 integra. Before i go ahead and install it, i wanted to know how to do the color mod? Here are some pics of the projectors (minus the lens).

The colorband will also stretch throughout most of the cut-off when you back up past 25 ft or so doing this color mod.

Place (4) #8 washers on the 2 bottom nipple posts (2 washers per each nipple). The washers go in between the front and rear halves of the TSX projector.

Location of one of the nipple posts. The other is right next to it (not visible in this angle).....

HIDplanet is a great site to be a member on when it comes to hid retrofits as well as hid modding...

sweet.

but wouldnt only putting washers between the case on the lower half of the projector make is seal crooked. The top half will be sealed tight while the bottom half with the washers will have some kind of gap...?

the housing doesn't fully seal in either set up (i've got a set of TSX's)... But the projector should be housed inside of a headlight and at most only the rear exposed which is as far as sealing problems should be concerned..

can usually seal it up with some aluminum tape. so no light leaks out.

So really, this color mod will not "lessen" my light output nor will it make it better im assuming. All its going to add is the rainbow effect?

Here is a side by side comparison of washer modded vs non washered, notice how small of a difference it is... I wouldn't worry about light bleed out any further than with the normal set up.

As for output I've read it going both ways, washer modding yielding a lesser output or a better output... All I can do is show you is haknslash's (on HIDPlanet) pics:

Yep it's TSX's on haknslash's srt-4 when he had it.... He's the creator of this popular pic for people to show how retro's are better:
The following is copied from the University section of HIDPlanet:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by haknslash &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I made this pic for a future reference the next time some person swearing by kits tries to have "that" arguement. I get tired of trying to find pics to show them the 'light' so to speak so this is my quick reference pic for them lol.

I was showing some people the TSX retro in a thread and one person commented on the following:

I figured perhaps they just didn't know or understand that the step gets larger as more distnace is added, thus lighting signs at distance.

I then replied with this:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "haknslash" &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Well here's some driving video for you going down a road. Its not of the TSX's but it is of my TL retro in my SRT. http://videos.streetfire.net/P...C2739</TD></TR></TABLE>

He then replied with this nonsense:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by "anonymus" &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">That doesn't throw light nearly <FONT COLOR="red">as far as my stock headlights with PIAA bulbs</FONT>, and the MP driving light kit. You coudln't even see the top half of that silver car that was parked at the beginning of the video.</TD></TR></TABLE>

In my defense for retros:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by haknslash &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Please post some pics of your awesome halogen distance lol. This I gotta see.

Your not supposed to be able to see over the cut-off (the silver car scene). Thats what makes HID projectors so much better than halogen reflectors. Just because you throw light up above there, doesn't mean thats a good thing. Thats glare my friend, the foe to oncomers.</TD></TR></TABLE>

hmm... in the street fire video, it says TL bi-xenon hid retro. Doesnt seem to be that bright in the video compared to the above pics.

i will definitely do the washer mod. that rainbow is pure sex.

haha don't ask for them, just go to the nuts'n'bolts sections and pull a package of #8 washers off the peg. They'll probably be in a pack of 10 or 25 or something for a buck or 2.

Looks bright as crap to me. In the video, they may not appear to extend that far due to the camera showing huge contrast between the lit area and the dark area above. In real life, the difference in contrast is not that extreme, as your eyes can adjust and adapt between the lit and unlit areas, and your eyes can see things above the cut off that are lit by light reflected off the road that the camera doesn't really pick up.
