Default NewB from Nor Cal

Hello,
I just purchased a used 2005 Honda Civic EX. Vehicle needs alot of work and thought I better educate myself by joining this site.

Car blew a head gasket after commuting with it for 5 days. Just got out of shop. Turns out that the thermostat was failing. Previous owner put in an after market radiator and removed the condenser so it would fit....? So, I have no A/C. Car is making unusual noise when put in gear. Might need clutch job and possibly input bearing replacement.

So, I will be seeking any advice on repairing with better parts or sticking with OEM parts. Trying to save some $ by doing the work myself. HG job set me back $1800.

Thanks....yeah I bought the car to commute in. I commute 100 miles a day at times and need a reliable car. The previous owner was trying to do something...car has air intake redone and coilover springs, which lowered the car more than I want. I believe the clutch and transmission are stock. New engine put in about 80k miles ago. Body has 224k miles on it. The body and interior are in great shape. Think its about time to replace the clutch and bearings. Clutch not sticking or slipping but I'm getting terrible bearing noise when in gear.

Thanks for the greetings!

Um. $1800? Why not just replace it yourself?
