Car Overheated....Head Gasket Blew....How Much $?
Engine:
2000 Honda Civic DX Hatch - D Series Motor - totally stock...
Story:
I was driving home from work the other night when my temp guage shot up. I continued to drive it home, approx 3 min or so. When I got home I waited for the car to cool down and then opened my radiator cap and reservor. There was no green fluid (Antifreeze) found anywhere. I refilled the radiator and burped it. I then drove it around for 2 days and the fluid level never changed. (Even the resivoir stayed the same) One the 3rd day i took it to my mechanic and he told me that the car had overheated and blew the head gasket. He also said some other parts were warpped and he would have to send it out to a machine shop to get it fixed. So my question is how much should I expect to pay for parts and labor? I know all shops/mechanics dont have the same labor rates and such but I just want a ballpark figure of how much it should cost. Thanks in advance.

Y7s have bad oil pumps. Since the engine needs repair, i would look into a Y8 or something. I would swap the current engine, unless its in really good shape besides the HG.

it depends on how bad the damage is. it can be as small as a warped head (milling can range anywhere between $40 and $100) to as big as a cracked block. i rebuilt a h22 that overheated for a friend and the shop I work at replaced a sleeve that came loose. The block cracked between cyls 3 and 4. We put a block guard in from race eng and resleeved it and it's running great. Most of the time is just a warped head. But if coolant got in the cylinder, then you might have bent valves too since the coolant could've forced the valves to stay open. It all depends on how long you ran the motor, how hot it got, etc.

if a mechanic is gona do it, then just fix your motor. its gonna cost you about 500-700 with new thermostat and hoses. while you at it you might as well replace timing belt and water pump if you are due. if you go the other route and buy a new motor its gonna cost you 200-400 for the engine and 800-1200 for labor. so you would be spending more.
