New to the site
I thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Bob, and I own 2 Honda Accords (well 1 belongs to my wife, but I get to work on it
). She drives a 2000 2.3 L V-TECH 4 cylinder with AT, while I just bought a 97 with a 2.2 non-vtec 5 speed car from hell. The last time it ran was the day I drove it home.
My son was the person who got us into these cars, as he's got a 98 Civic with 300K on it, and just bought an 08 Civic Si. At the time I bought the 97, I was looking for a replacement for my 92 Geo Prizm (a Toyota Corolla clone), and I wanted a car I could shift for myself, and was a little bigger than the Geo. Well, it's all of that, but it doesn't run.
Now, I'm pretty handy with tools ("if women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy" a quote from Red Green). I can find my way around a car, as I'm also into air cooled VWs, and GM trucks of all ages and sizes, so wrenching on old rusty stuff isn't new to me. Living in the "salt belt" I'm also used to fabricating patch panels and welding them in. I can't tell you how many cars and trucks I've rebuilt over the years, as I've built a few engines (both foreign and domestic), and brought a few cars back from the dead that should have been scrapped.
I look forward to spending some time here and learning about these cars (you'll probably find me in the 90-02 Accord forum), as that's what I have here, and what I need to learn about. I'm not going to drag race it/them, or go out on the solo course, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate those that do. As an older guy, I like comfort, and being able to cruise, so I'll probably swap some rims onto the 97 (I've got a set of 7 spoke Koenig's with dual bolt patterns that are currently on my Geo), and maybe a slight lowering job (as long as it doesn't kill the ride, or look like a boat) along with getting the rest of the car up to snuff, as I don't think it's had a lot of maintenance done to it in a while (1st owner always took it to the dealer). Basically I want a reliable car that I can take anywhere, and rides good. Had I thought about it more, I probably wouldn't have bought the 97, but rather looked for a 98 as I prefer that body style. But what's done is done, and the car I've got is pretty clean (I've been under it to drop the fuel tank) with minimal rust (a plus in the "salt belt") .
