Ok folks - just signed up here, because I'm now the new owner of a '97 Civic LX sedan. Nice, clean car. Somewhat high mileage (152K) but still got a lot of life in her yet.

Anyway, I'm a fairly competent mechanic with experience in imports (Subarus), but I'm new to Hondas. My goal here is simple DIY maintenance- I'm not planning to tune her or add a Roots blower or anything. So given that, are there any specialty tools or equipment that I should plan on buying to support this vehicle?

Anyway, I've spent some time today looking through the posts here - lots of good info. I'm looking forward to learning from you all.

32 mm socket for the axel nut. but thats pretty much it you will learn that hondas com apart with mostly 10,12,14, and 18 mm socket.

LOL...your experience with Subarus no doubt makes you wonder if there are special tools needed for servicing your new Honda.

Honestly I've never run into a situation were special were needed to finish a certain job on any of my 92-00 Civics. If you have 10mm through 32mm sockets, a Philips screwdriver and a T10 Torx bit you can fix just about anything on you're new car.

Yeah, I've been expecting the "to do an oil change, you really need to buy the double-actuated framitz wrench (with the positronic manifold)" answer from somebody. The thing is, sometimes they're right, so I like to check. And yeah, the Soobs are prone to that sort of thing, so I'm a little biased on that score.

messeduprex - I will probably have to get the 32mm socket - I think I have a 36 and a 29, but not a 32, go figure. Amazing what kinda stuff you collect over the years. Thanks!

mcvtec - I've got plenty of Torx bits and sockets, too....I used to have a girlfriend with a Volvo

Just make sure not to over torque anything. Its very easy when youre used to working on larger cars. Ive broken tons of stuff bc I was stupid and didnt check the torque.

Get a few 10mm sockets - A civic is just a bunch of 10mm bolts O.O.
