Introduction from Alaska
Never thought I would be diving into this world... but here I am.
I've been a pushrod V8 guy most my life, it's what I grew up with, it's what I know.
I did rock a few turbo'ed 4cyls, but they were STi's and SRT's.
Recently, my buddy found a 93... or 94?? hatchback civic. It was pretty beat up, been sideswiped, interior was junked... etc.
We thought this would be a perfect car for autocross and our "Tannacross" event, (we take over an airfield in Tok, and make a road-race course)
We had never caged anything before, but I had a tubing bender at work, and after a few drinks, and some back and forth joking, bam, we had pipe and the bender setup and ready to give this a shot.
The car had skunk2 coil-overs on it, strut bars, a header... and an LSD in the tranny.
Sounded good to us! Although... there was a microswitch on the throttle body that indicated WOT.... the only time I've seen that is for a nitrous kit... not knowing the history of the car, we shrugged and kept going.
But we had 2 weeks till the Tannacross event... so we were on crunch time.
Gutted the car, bent up the cage, got it welded in, safety equipment installed, new wheels, couple sets of tires, new pads, rotors, brake lines... laundry list of maintenance to get done.
Drug the car out to Tannacross, she developed rod knock... and WINDOW!
So now we are researching what motor to replace it with.... holy god so many options.
We are wanting a high revving motor, bulletproof, and we would like to start to play with tuning on this car. (again, purely a racecar, not even road legal anymore, no title etc)
We really don't care if we blow it up!
What motor combo would you put in this?
