Sir: OK try this one on for size. Own a 2014 Odyssey bought used started having timing belt breakage issues. Hooked up scan tool it shows the van as a 2016 (not 2014) the VIN number on scan read are different and it's for a 2016 as well, so someone change out the ECM at some point. I've been through 4 timing belt replacements and one involved a head job to replace valves. The problem with this van is the "Timing" the belt and marks are perfect for 1000% sure. However, upon start up it backfires through the air box every-time! It breaks the timing belts after say 2500 to 3000 miles. Right now it's parked even though the belt is not broke just not wanting another breakage. Also the Harmonic balancer came apart as well. The rubber separated from the ring, I am sure due to the back firing reverse movement working it loose causing it to fail as well. So, I have a timing issue replacing both the cam and crank sensors now, we'll see if that stops the initial backfire. I don't have the funds to pay a dealership to sell me a new ECM and program it, van has lots of miles but our main vehicle. What other less expensive options do I have? Spoke to three Honda Dealer Service mangers and they all said bring it in we'll have to replace the ECM and reprogram everything. I could spend 1-3 hundred to have it done but that won't cover it. What can be done and who in the Midland/Odessa area would or able too? Or can it be done over the internet with a laptop vegasmax at yahoo
