Default ZC problem

hey guys, i'm new to the honda-tech forum and was wondering if you could help me out with a problem. I recently (this past week) installed a DOHC black valve cover ZC into my '91 civic hatchback std (1.5 liter, 4 speed manual). It starts and idles fine, but when I try to get underway, it totally bogs. It feels like ridiculous turbo lag (I don't have a turbo). I checked and rechecked the cam timing, and it seems to be ok. The ignition timing, however, is retarded. Its at about the white mark on the crank pulley (TDC) as opposed to the red mark. This is as far advanced as it will go... I was thinking maybe I have a bad ignition coil/distributor... any suggestions? Thanks and merry christmas!
