Default year of engine for swap?

i heard someplace that if you are doing an engine swap, you have to swap in an engine that is either the same year or newer than the year of your car. is this true? also, what year were B16A1's made and what years were B16A2's made? which is the better deal? B16A1 for like $1400 shipped? or B16A2 for $2500 shipped? any difference in power or anything?

B16A2 FROM 92-95 HAS HYDRALIC CLUTCH AND 170HP

Legit meaning smog legal, or if a cop pulls you over and checks the engine to find out it's from a older car? I am stuck in this situation right now. I have a fully built 2.0L Golden Eagle LS motor from a 1992 Integra ready for a chassis. I either want a 94+ Integra or a 96+ Civic. I just got my Clutchmasters Kevlar Multi-disc clutch today for a hydrdo trans, so I can't get anything from the 88-95 Civics or 90-93 Integras. Anybody????

The only difference in clutches is that 92+ are Large Spline and 89-91 are Small Spline. So if you get a 92-93 Cable Trans, it'll work fine with the Clutch.

Your wrong...on like everything.

B16a1 have a 'Cable Transmission", but you dont' have to use one obviously.
All B16a are 160 Horsepower.
There weren't any USDM B16a made in 92.

B16A from 93-97 Del Sol VTEC
B16A from 99-00 Honda Civic SI

So if you want OBD1, It's gotta be 93-95 Del Sol VTEC

The Engines are basically Identical from 93-97 and 99-00.
