Y1/GSR/LS tranny LSD interchange ?
I have been doing many searches & haven't quite found the answer I seek, but close. My synchros are going out in my Y1 tranny. Has LSD.
B16A1 swap into 90 Civic hatch.
I have three options in mind:
1) Rebuild synchros/gears, possible main bearings (??) in Y1. Worry about parts availability.
2) Rumor has it that Y1 LSD will fit into 92-93 GSR tranny if mating GSR ring gear to Y1 LSD carrier. True?
3) Can Y1 LSD fit into cable LS tranny (from Integra)? What ring gear to use? Can I improve the final drive?
The main thing is to keep the LSD and similar F/D & gear ratios, while keeping the price down (yeah, right). Any help is GREATLY appreciated

Just rebuild the synchros.
You dont need the whole synchro assembly (unless its releasing out of gear when powering up), just the synch ring. Its the only one that wears anyway.
Probably around $250 for gears 1-5.
If you tranny is has been grinding for a while, then a used "good" tranny swap might be more cost effective.

what I found is that the LSD trannys use 14bolt ring gear while all the nonlsd use 10bolt. second size of the non-lsd ring gear is smaller then LSD ring gear.
1 Y1 synchros hard to find but a rumor is that the d-series 92 specs fit.
2 don't think this will work as stated above.
3 Y1 casing is very smiliar or same with the (USDM S1 and J1 90-1) and by slapping the ringgear LSD into and changing the gear around might actually work
or better yet get a JDM YS1 LSD tranny they are around. or get a non-lsd YS1 JDM or 92-3 GSR add a quaife and you'll never have a problem
YS1 (92-3) and Y21 (92-5) hydro share alot of parts together, something to consider.

JDM_DOHC_SiR has posted that he can get synchro kits for the Y1 for about $350.
I would just start over & buy a Kaaz or whatever, but the funds just aren't there right now. I might have to do just this - you're right.
For now, I am looking to see what is possible swaping factory parts...afterall, that's one of the reasons Honda is so great, right?

this is all that i can share in this matter, i also saw a web page that listed a y1 second gen. this tranny had the same gear ratios1-5(can't remember for sure), with a 4.40 final drive! that would be sweet, for the exception of 5th gear!
