Why hatchback?
Why is the EG hatch the favorite amongest hybriders?
I am considering of doing a hybrid, of course, I thought of the EG first because of weight and price, but in the long run if you plan to race it isn't a longer wheelbase a better option (i.e. 92-95 sedan)?

It's also the easiest platform to do an engine swap. Almost every engine honda makes can go in to an EG.

Re: Why hatchback? (fangtl)
Fangtl,
I dont know if you mean drag 'race' or road 'race'. For me the decision to go EG came after some talks w/ fellow ITR owners. I was depating EK vs EG, for me it had to be a hatch for wieght and price. Needed a little light rocket that could keep up w/ the ITR gang on the road course. In that regard also the EK has a longer wheel base which is not something I want for road racing.
For me it was a matter of defining what I wanted the car to do. I knew from the start I wasnt going to build a HUGE hp monster, and that I'd always be overpowered by the ITR, but I could make that up w/ the power/wieght ratio on track. Hence the EG.
I think its too early in the morning and I'm rambling, if you got q's just IM me

You're NOT over-powered by the ITR if you start out with their motor.
I like the hatch for style, weight, and the number of parts available. The EG hatches are/were abundant in Japan, unlike coupes, so the good tuners made parts mostly for hatches.
They did have coupes in Japan, but they were double exports, so they didn't have too many.
If you need to be convinced that the hatch is the best platform, then perhaps you should re-think your choice. Look at the majority of the 9 and 10 second cars, and especially a few years ago, and you'll see MOSTLY, not all, hatches.
SCCA is packed with more hatches too.
