Default whats the diff between a b18a and b18b both obd1?

is there much of a difference? i was wanting a b18b obd1 from a 95 integra but i just found out that in 92 was the first year they started obd1 so i might as well looks for a motor from 92-95 then if they are the same? also when im at the junk yard how can i identify an obd1 dizzy?

thanks

I believe that obd1 b18a was rated 130hp at the flywheel and the b18b was rated at 140hp, due to intake cam and intake manifold variations.

Same engines....the "B" has a slightly better IM and cams which can be easily changed.

so if the only main difference is are a few things in the head. So if they were each going to be used for a ls/vtec build up there wouldnt be any difference? b18a with b16 head, have the same outcome as a b18b with b16 head.

If youre using it as a foundation for an LS/VTEC, the only thing youd want is the block casting itself, the crank and rods.

but would it matter if it was a b18a or b18b, would it be better to get the b18a, because it is cheaper, and you can put that saved money into some machine work.

No it would not matter. Just get the block for the better price as long as it has decent compression.

a good idea would be to get a b18a block and spend the extra money for some boring and the rest towards some high compression 81.5mm pistons. where im from the b18a goes for about 200 less than b18b

the obd I b18a came with 140 hp and the b18b came with 142 hp. The IM is about the only difference. The head flow is very similar but if your using it for an ls/vtec it wouldn't matter to you. I'd choose the one that is in the best condition or has the less mileage. NOTE: the lower mileage doesn't always mean the best condition.

the obd0(90-91) b18a were rated at 130hp and 121tq. the obd1 b18a (92-93) are rated at 140hp and 127tq....only 2 less than the b18bs...and i believe that extra 2hp is from cams and IM.

Thanks for the post on the B18A and B18B

I have a B18A I have been sitting on thinking it wouldn't be as good as a B18B so thanks for asking the question!

No I just need to find a good local machine shop.

The axels have to do with the tranny and intermediate shaft, not the engine. They are the same.
