Default What is the weak link in the LS vtec???

I just bought a B16 swap from a buddy and it turns out the rings are beat! So I have an LS bottom end sitting here... and Im trying to decide between

Re-ring and re-bearing my B16...

or

LS Vtec, reusing my PR3 pistons so it will be 11:1

I plan on using ARP rod bolts, but is there any onther weak links to it?

I am on a very tight budget, I already spent all my money on this stupid swap!

The LS rods and rod bolts are weak...but you should be fine with the rods up to 8K.

Go ahead and get the arp rod bolts...they're pretty cheap so why not???

U can use ur b16 (22t) water pump but your gonna need a GSR oil pump unless you have an obd2 LSblock (b18b1) All OBD2 oil pumps are the same...or so i've heard...I always use a GSR.

And that 22t water pump means ur gonna need a GSR timing belt.

Oh yea GSR head studs...since ur gonna order arp rod bolts go ahead and get the head studs too...save on shipping

The "weak link" of LS Vtec is that the LS block isn't ment to operate in "VTEC" like conditions. You need better rods, more oil (and coolant flow) to prevent starvation at high RPM, and coated pistons would be ideal. BUTTTTT....i've seen plenty of ls/vtecs like yours work just fine for along time. Seen alot blow the hell up too. Just put a few extra bux in here and there and save your motor in the long run.
