i've been wondering what motor is the best for a del sol? the b16 or the b18...what makes one better than the other?

i agree about the b20 all that other stuff is optional, a b20 has great torque to pulla little del sol which is slightly heavy. b20 vtec or ls vtec would be my choice

well it depends, if you get an obd1 ls you could find one for a grand possibly, then you could get the ls vtec swap done for just about 2000 give or take, which would be less than a gsr, besides ls vtec is da bomb

When you say "best", what do you mean ? fuel economy ?

Something with torque to lug the 'sol weight around.
Something B18 or better (such as a B20 vtec as already suggested).
Don't bother with the torqueless wonder series (B16/B17) if yer a 'sol owner.

b20 or ls vtec is nice, but not for reliability (in comparison to other swaps available)
give us a price range.
give us a price range.

not really this is a very common arguement on honda-tech, ls are barely if at all less reliable, i mean unless your talking about a b18cr

a B20 is reliable.
a B20 vtec has a good chance of not being reliable in the long run.

i would like to stay around the 3 to 4 thousand range after part install and aftermarket parts. i would most likely be doing some of the installs myself and with a couple of my friends tho

yes if properly done it is just as reliable, and better for a del sol because of the power. if properly done and seeing that your not a ricer and you dont rev on every car you see with an apc sticker the motor shouldnt bite you in the ***. on the other hand if you and some buddys are doing it i wouldnt recomend breaking into an lsvtec and id stick with the gsr. also if you(drunkenmonkey) need some pointers i have a friend who just recently swapped a jdm gsr into his sol, i can get pictures for you and can tell you that that little car has some *****, slow off the line but highway monster
