What ECU for an LSVT ? Kenji ? Any opinions ?
I have posted some probs before, but it's not doing much good. I am running an LSVT with a B16 head and IM and b18a block. Pistons yeild a 8.97:1 CR
I do not have the K/S in the block, but I did wire it into the ECU at the pin out listed in the helms. I just left the K/S in the cabin, close to the ECU. I wired Vtec as well.. all with 16 gauge wire.
Now the problems start here... I think... I am using a 2000 GSR ECU, obd2. I wired everything in and am only throwing a code 65 (2ndary 02) What happens is that with the GSR ECU, the car feels weaker down low and kinda bogs going into and thru Vtec up to about 6500 rpm, where it opens up some and gets faster. While in vtec, I have to feather the throttle to play with the mixture (that is a total guess) to get ANY kind of power out of vtec. ie: If the idential setups were to race, one with the LS ecu and one with the GSR ecu... the ONLY reason the GSR would win would be because it revs to 8K and makes a MARGINALLY small amount of power between 7K and 8K rpm.
WHY ME ???
I have dicussed this with a couple other people and some suggest the possiblity of the GSR having different fuel maps from an SI ECU, which would cause the tremendous loss of power w/o a GSR dual stage manifold. (I know the ECU does not control the mani). My car REALLY feels like it's holding back ..... even below vtec... but I don't know why...
Any help would be GREAT !

chipped p28
or
hondata
or
hondata
I don't really want/need to know about a 'chipped p28, Hondata...blah, blah' I know what those things do.... I need to know why my POS isn't working right.

A GS-R ECU is not the way to go on a single runner intake manifold setup.
About 4 years ago I was running a GS-R ECU with a Field VTEC controller and thought it was working pretty well. I was making about 190 Hp or so. I put in a P28 with a DOHC VTEC program in it and it made a HUGE difference. Especially in the midrange.
Do you feel a lag around 4400 RPM up to about 6000 RPM?

I am having the exact same prob on my 94 gsr. I have a pr3 head on a b18a block also. Would it be worth just buying some type of chip for my obd1 p72 to illiminate the dual stage fuel curve setup. VTEC is hardly felt or heard with this setup, unless the air is really dense outside, hence, morning or night. then only you can really hear it in 2-3 gears only. thanks, mabey we can work this out together. LOL thanks, daniel

gsrteg,
I can chip your P72 to run your setup better. Do you have VTEC/fuel controler?
Email me for more info on chipping your ECU.

I am gonna assume that the GSR fuel maps below 6500 are different than an SI then ? Does the missing KS affect it at all ?
Kenji, can you also eliminate the obd2 (2ndary 02) feature from an obd2 GSR ecu when you chip it ?
Also, would I be able to use the same chip when I reinstall my turbo ?

X2BOARD,
Unfortunately, I can not chip OBD2 ECUs...yet. I was under the impression that you had an OBD1 ECU.
If you want to stick with an OBD2 ECU there are some people who can chip it. If you want to switch to OBD1 I can chip that ECU.
Let me know. Either way I will be happy to help you out.

Kewl... thanks for the feed back... it has helped... my budget is pretty shot right now will all the work that was done and still needs to be, but I will need a good ECU for the daily driver for now. Would a P28 plug directly to my harness ? Or will I need the conversion harness ? 2 to 1 ? I am contemplating switching to an OBDI, but that's kinda costly with a harness and new ecu.

p91 = JDM civic coupe (d16a (sohc vtec ecu)), it comes always in auto form, basically our auto P28 but minus the athmospheric pressure sensor

I am gonna take a shot in the dark and say that the p28 base fuel map is nowhere near what a GSR or GSVT would need, right ?

Kenji Do you have VTEC/fuel controler?
No, I don't have a vtec controller. But I might buy a jdm p30 to try and fix my probs. hopefully
