What is better I-VTEC or VTEC?

What is better I-VTEC or VTEC?
I am thinking bout selling my type r motor and getting a k20 type r for my hatchback, I can't decide on what i wanna get, I heard I VTEC is better for gas milage and so forth, and vtec is better for race use, the nsx and new s2k are still standard vtec, so i figure if ivtec was better for race those two cars would defently have ivtec, what do you think?
