Default weird idle and temp gauge problem

OK, my temp gauge goes up tp hot, I mean all the way. Then it goes up and down as I'm driving. I've checked the fluid, and it's always good. I don't know what's wrong. Next. recently I did my timing. I had to take the valve cover off and adjust the cams and all that stuff( it was that far off). well I get it back together and it's good, well better. I can't get it any better then 20 BTDC, and I'm one tooth off. Anyway the problem is when I push the clutch in to stop, it will idle good for a minute or so then it drops to where it wants to stall, then back up to good. It also goes up and down and stalls out. Does anybody have any ideas about this? thanks. Oh, it's a zc into a DX, and it just started to do all this.

I bet the timing has something to do with it stalling, since its not at TDC......could be wrong....

as far as overheating, does your fan come on? sometimes the fan switch will get dirty and wont kick the fan on, causing it to overheat until driving when the fluids will pass faster through the engine cooling it down.

yeah the fan kicks on. It's not like it overheats, the motor runs like normal. but it's a little scary. I really hate that idle thing.

okay if its overheating check your coolant lines make sure they arent loose. Then replace your thermostat its probably no good . Its probably not opening the way its supposed to. As for your idle check and bleed the coolant system then check you tps sensor first off is it pullin any codes?

oK, thanks. Also, I heard about feeling the upper and lower radiator hoses. something about if the lower one isn't hot, the thermostat isn't opening? I'm not sure what they said.
