VX eng in EX car, EX eng in VX car...Help please-
I have two cars, a 92 VX-hatch and a 95 EX 4-door. I want to swap the engines in these cars.. In other words, I want to put the VX engine in the EX car/body/wiring. and the EX D16z engine in the VX body/wiring.
I've been told that putting the EX (D16z) engine in the VX body/main wiring harness is a straight plug and play application. (the EX eng harness plugs into the VX main harness with no problems or additional wiring is needed) and use the p-28 ecu
Pluging the VX wiring into the EX main wiring harness is a different story. I know the VX runs a 5 wire o2 sensor whereas the EX is wired for a 4-wire o2 sensor. Does that mean I need to run a 5th o2 wire to the ecu by pinning it ? Are there anymore additional wires (or hardware) that need to be wired to the P-07 ecu?
If you're wondering, I'm using the VX (D16Z eng) car in Honda Challenge (H4) as a Civic SI, and my EX 4-door with the VX engine will be my daily driver-trying to get the VX gas mileage in an EX
anyone with firsthand experience?
thx

Re: VX eng in EX car, EX eng in VX car...Help please- (vtecjj)
Both of these motors in both bodies will be plug and play. They are both VTEC motors with the same connectors. As far as the oxygen sensor goes, you will have to hard wire the 4 or 5 wires to the ECU for the EX. Since you are running the EX motor in the VX body, just use the vx O2 sensor on the EX motor. No wiring will be needed. If you use the motor/wiring harness with its correct motor, no change will be needed. I hope this helps.
I put a B16 in a VX and had to switch to the 4 wire O2. I had to run 4 wires to the ECU. Other than that one sensor, everything plugged into the B16.

The five wire oxygen sensor is a non-issue if the car is a CA emissions car, as it was never used here.
