Default vtec controller question

I just bought a d16y8 head to put on my 90 CRX Si? I was going to use a RPM switch to engage Vtec, but I need to worry about the fuel mixture too. My question is "Can I wire a Field SFC-Vtec controller or APEXi unit to my stock NON-Vtec ECU?"

Thank you, didn't want to waste my money.
I looked up how to wire the Field unit and it always showed connecting to the vtec wire on the ecu. Didn't know if you had to wire that or not? Now I just have to figure out how to wire it to my ecu.
