Default Re: transmission? (Adams5)

search, depends on if you want short gears, longer gears, strong tranny

You'll actually have better top speeds with a LS tranny because the longer gear ratio's it has, but using a GSR tranny will help you have better acceleration and giving you some pretty good top speed as well. An Si tranny is even better acceleration, but top speed decreases because of the trade off of tighter gear ratios.

LS tranny:
bottom of the barrel - has the longest gear ratios and final drive, great for making top speeds and saving on gas mileage, wack for instant acceleration/performance. Lame tranny imo.

GSR tranny:
middle ground - gear ratio's and final drive are a bit tighter which gives better acceleration from 0rpm onwards. Top end speeds are good but not as great as LS. good tranny nonetheless

Si & US/JDM 95-97 type-R tranny:
best tranny - 1-5 gear ratios are all tighter than GSR & LS trannies, yet has the same final drive as a GSR tranny (4.40). Great acceleration from 0rpm onwards, feels torquey especially with a lightened flywheel. Can reach top speeds pretty quick but will fall short to top speeds that a GSR & LS tranny can reach.

JDM 98+ ITR tranny:
cream of the crop - has a mixture of Type-R/Si and GSR gearing to extract the best of both worlds. Great acceleration & top end speeds. Utilizes Type-R/Si 1-3rd gears and GSR 4+5th gears and has a special final drive ratio of 4.785. This tranny rules. 1-3 are your get up and go gears which you can totally feel thanks to the 4.7 final drive; 4-5th are top speed gears which fall slightly short of a regular GSR tranny.
