Is there a difference in the cam profiles of the A/T b-16a and the manual transmission b-16a???
I've got a first gen b-16a in a 4th gen. civic. This is actually my 2nd b-16a longblock, unfortunately. This first one came with the complete swap, tranny computer and all. Due to a loose drain plug incident, I accidently siezed it up.
So I ordered just the longblock but got stuck with one that came out of an automatic. I'm still using the old tranny and computer, but this one feels a little slower. I've had some very knowledgeable people tell me that there is a cam difference in the automatic's and the manuals which equates to a substantial horsepower loss. On the other hand I've had other very knowledgeable people tell me that the cams are exactly the same and that the difference is in the computer and tranny. Does anyone know the facts on this???

yes u are right the cams in the b16s that came mated with the auto tranny are less aggressive and smaller than the b16s that came with manual trannies. i had one too and i blew the motor up because i used a mugen computer with no rev limiter and went to 8600 rpms and the b16's that came with auto trannies were not made to rev that high at all. what u could do is replace the head u got with your old head if its still good.. other than that u got a slow motor
