Default Teach me... LS?

I did a search to find out but couldnt learn anything really.

What exactly is the LS engine?
-to be more specific... what makes it different from the other motors? I read about LS bottom.. LS vtec... or using a LS tranny.

-this may turn out to be the stupidest question in all of history...but please help

The LS engine comes in 2 forms: B18A1 and B18B1. The B18A1 was used in the LS, RS, GS Integra's from 1990-93. The 90-91's were OBD0 and the 92-93 are OBD1. Then 94 they revised it and the motor was restamped the B18B1 which was made up until the end of the Integra in 01. The 94-95's were OBD1, the 96-99 were OBD2 and the 00-01's are OBD2B.
They are a 1.8L DOHC nonVTEC engine and make fairly good torque with slightly more displacement than a B18C1 or C5. They are lower compression so they respond well to turbos and the bottom end is notorious for being used to build an LSVTEC (aka Frankenstein) using a DOHC VTEC head.

CLASS DISMISSED...
