swapping the v-tec head
hey guys can someone tell me what is the difference between the v-tec head and the non-vtec. Are the internals of the v-tec head different from the non-vtec? Does the v-tec head has more valves 16 (non-vtec) ? And do i have to make eny changes to the engine if i swap the v-tec head like sensors or or a oil line or anything?
thanks

Oh boy. I understand you're trying to learn, but on this board, searching around on this board, along with the internet will explain a lot better with pictures and such.
First thing is first: it's VTEC, not v-tec my friend. Go to howstuffworks.com and click on the camshaft area, and that will explain VTEC for you.

Re: swapping the v-tec head (acc97lxAndy)
ditto on what poison said.
but to add.....
Yes, a non-VTEC & VTEC head are simliar in certain ways, but overall, no, they are not the same. The VTEC head has a more advanced internal design over the non-VTEC head. Yes, they both have 16 valves and run 2 camshafts. If you want to put a VTEC head on a non-VTEC block...that depends on your engine configuration.
What exact motor do you have? and what year is your car & car type?

Re: swapping the v-tec head (Katman)
ditto on what katman said, but to also add....
VTEC has 1 more cam lobe per cylinder if it's an SOHC VTEC motor, for DOHC VTEC motors, there are 2 extra cam lobes per cylinder.

I believe it is do-able (putting an EX head on your LX block)....but i'm not 100% sure. Just make sure that whe you do this, get the EX ecu and wire harness, and more than likely, you'll have to wire VTEC from the ecu out to the engine bay. I'm guessing the EX transmission has better gearing too...you might wanna research on that.
I assume Honda built the SOHC accord motors on the same idea as the SOHC civic engines, where parts are compatible/interchangeable with other SOHC engines, such as head swapping, tranny swapping, internal engine parts, etc...
