Default swap w/o car lift?

Anyone ever drop and then swap an engine from the bottom up into the bay without a car lift? If so, how did you go about it?

Yup, I've seen it done. You need a team to do this, one at every corner of the engine and possibly one person under it for support. I gotta say you definitely need some man power here. Good luck

Good luck! Just borrow an engine hoist an you're good to go. No lift needed. This is the method i've used for years, well 4 or 5 anyway...

It can be done out the bottom i have done it and seen it done a few times....its not hard really just make sure you can "lift" the car car up high enough to get the motor out from under it. good luck

So, are you saying to use an engine hoist to lower the engine (from above) through the engine bay to the ground?

yes.
this is the most popular way., unless u have a wonderful amount of access to a nice lift and a pretty well stocked shop.(which most of us dont )

The photos arent the best, but these guys used a hoist to lift the car up........

http://www.h22hybrid.20m.com/photo.html

Personally i went traditional and used a hoist to drop the motor in from the top. But to each his/her own.

i have done it twice now each time with three people total. you jsck it up from the oil pan just out wood between engine and jack and the tie a rope or strap to the trans and just jacket it up and guide it in. then the other guy just bolts the motor mounts in very easy actually

YOu guys are all doing it the hard way.

All you need are two floor jacks. Using hte jack point below the doors on each side of hte car you can raise the car enough to get hte motor in and out. If you need pics i am pretty sure we have some of our last swap. Did it high enough to push an h22 under it.

here is one pic.

never put a motor back in the car this way, only removed one. it's possible but definitely need some muscle.

iT IS AND it takes no muscle whatsoever. YOu can lower the entire chassis ALL they way to the ground with some stock honda jacks or a slim floor jack.

Dude someof you are living way to luxurious. I have done my last 4 swaps by MYSELF with the method mentioned above. I just slide the motor under the car which is supported by jackstands, take turns on lowering each side of the car/adjusting motor to line up to mounts, then do the rear mount first then both the side mounts. I do all this in my garage with 2 jacks, 2 stands, and 1 person.

Not a big deal at all.....I have done motors with and without lifts as well as with and without air tools......

Just get the car up high enough and it's a breeze!
