Default Swap update...

Props to Andy (from H-A.net) and B18CXR (from here), they were right about everything they said...

Well it looks like we're not quite done with the swap. We ran into a couple of problems, but that's fine. I wasn't trying to rush getting it done in 1 day anyway. We're also doing the suspension and new brakes as well. We ended up running to the parts stores SEVERAL times to get tools or additional parts.

Damn, there's SO much I could post here...hmm...

-Well basically the main problem that slowed us down was the fixed bolt on the bottom of the ball joint. It got cross-threaded coming off. Well it's a rare size thread. 12 x 1.25mm. Well I couldn't find a place in town that had that size in a die. Finally, yesterday, my dad's friend found a re-threader bolt we used. My advice...don't cross thread anything. hehe.

We still need to...

-Add the transmission oil
-Add an O2 sensor
-Get my Thermal cat-back exhaust (today)
-Finish the wiring (almost done running the extra wires)
-rear suspension (springs/shocks)
-run the wires for the tach

That's about it. Should be done this next weekend (since I really can't finish it during the week)

Here's the problems you will run into and what I suggest you do...

-Axle nuts. What a ***** f@#ker. Damn. Bent the breaker bar. Had another helper pipe bar over it for leverage. We got another one that worked. Spray them good before you do the swap and pray for them to come off.

-Shifter linkage pin (to the tranny). Well, make sure you buy one from Honda/Acura first. That way you don't have to spend an hour removing the old one.

-Motor mount inserts (ala Energy Suspension or whatever brand you choose). Well, I forgot what Andy told me, but you NEED the Civic mounts, NOT the Integra mounts. You see the hemisphere mount that connects to the end doesn't fit onto the Civic frame flush. So you use the Integra mounts, with the Civic hemisphere mounts at the end. The Integra ES motor mount inserts don't fit. We had to modify ours to fit with a little bit of work.

-Header/exhaust. Okay, well there was some gray area with the info available on this. I bolted on a DC Sports 4-2-1 one piece header that is for an ITR/LS. The stock exhaust WOULD bolt up, but the flange doesn't match up. The flange on the header is perfectly horizontal, whereas the stock system has an odd angle on it and won't line up. I have my Thermal coming, but now I fear it will be the same way. I will find out soon enough when I get it today.

There's a lot more I'm sure I could post here, but I'm so tired right now.

BTW, we turned her over for about 30 sec and she ran GREAT! Open header! hehe.

I have a TON of pics I can post, but I'll wait until I'm done this next weekend.

-Todd

My swap is done. The B18C1 beast is running with the help of a Skunk2 OBD 1 race ECU. I redline at 9K and VTEC engagement is at 5700. Fireball exhaust is on backorder so I opted for racing medallion. I mustang and an accord V6 already learned the hard way with the help of an ACT clutch and tenzo short shifter. All praises due to Norris at NU-Image for making it happen.

No Houston, my post was not a joke. I took out the cat and now my exhaust is extremely loud. I always have mustangs and accords trying to race. I usually have a very good tolerance for that but when you know you can do 13-14 sec. 1/4 miles, then you will want to teach those bastards a lesson. Would you like a lesson? I promise it will be unforgettable.

No offense Unleashed, but Houston would spank your hybrid along with mine. He's got an ITR hybrid 5th Gen Civic hb.

I guess he would, I would still try though. It's the effort that counts. He's all the way in houston anyways, I probably won't be seeing him whipping virginia roads. I am still very happy with my hybrid. Also, turbo is in the works.

Don't get me wrong...I'll be VERY happy with my hybrid as well when it's done this weekend. Even if it is my beater. hehe.

Hey Jack. I tried to call you Saturday about the wiring. I think we've got it all figured out now though. We got the wiring diagram from the Hybrid site.

*further update*

I got the tranny oil in and topped off the coolant. Now I just need to...

-finish the wiring
-Rear suspension (just replace shocks/springs)
-Install AEM CAI
-Run wiring for Tach
-Exhaust (waiting for it to come in...may need to be slightly modified)
-locate and install an O2 sensor

That is it. After that it will be ready to drive!

Todd-

Congrats on the swap so far. I thought that all B series headers would bolt right up, maybe not. I have a DC header from a 2000 Si on my LS. It bolted to my existing cat ok (93 del Sol Si).
