Default Swap Question

Hey my cousin just got a 93 civic hatch, not sure if its a vx hx or someting like that, but its not a Si. Well anyways he bought the car pretty cheap, he got it for a little less than $1000, but the car doesnt run and he doesnt want to spend any money on rebuilding the motor so he's thinking about a B16/B18 swap. How much does a B16(civic Si) or B18c1(GSR) engine cost with labor and everything. Also what exacly does it come with, engine, tranny, intake, exhuast and what else? Can he use his stock clutch for the new engine? Will it pass he smog test? do u have to report to your DMV that your doing a swap? Im sorta new at this import scence especially swaps so i cant really help my cuz out , so can u help him out PLEASE .

PS. whats the Diff. between a JDM engine and a USDM engine, besides the little more HP u get from a JDM?

ok first, you should only worry about emissions if your in CA. if your in ca go with a usdm motor. the diffrence between usdm and jdm (besides emissions) are the jdm omtors have a little higher compressions which makes about 10 more hp per engine (b16 usdm has 160, b16 jdm has 170).
as for prices on labor it could run you 500-1000 depending on where you go, look around in your area and talk to people. and engines
the b16 second gen going rate is 2300+ the gsr is 3000+ that would be for a full swap
engine tranny, ecu, mounts, linkages etc etc.

Whar are the diff. between all the B16's Example B16A1 B16A2 B16B? which ones are JDM which ones are USDM.

P.S. My Cousin and I live in Cali, so it would be better to get a USDM engne? Did all of u that did a swap pass the smog test. i asked this Question before but do u have to report to your DMV that your doing a swap?

Okay B16A is the first gen B16 either from a JDM Sir or integra. B16A1 is a lil newer and from the Del Sol. B16A2 can be found in the 99-2000 Civic Si's. The B16B is probably the most rare most rare in the US out of all the others. It's a CTR motor. Also if you got one of the older JDM B16's and it has a 5 million series serial number on it, it has 10.4:1 C/R that the others don't have. The rest have 10.2:1 and the CTR has 10.8:1.

ok your wrong on the engine codes
b16a can ethire be first or second gen. all the jdm motors dont have a number after it.
b16a2 is from a 99+si
b16a3 is from the 93-95 del sol
b16b is from a 96+ civic type r, only found in japan.
you dont have to report it to the dmv.
