Swap help
Hey guys, i'm kinda new here ...
I just bought a 96 coupe, the non-vtec kind and am thinking of putting in a new engine in the near future. I already checked w/ a few ppl about pricing and everything, and also found a mechanic that said he'll put it in for me for $350 (canadian). The only problem is that he probably won't do my vtec and since my car is non-vtec i don't even have the base wiring there. I was wondering if you guys could give me a couple of tips on how long it would take and tell me about how hard it is to do, and anything else you might think of. I was also wondering if there is a wiring harness that could help you out while doing it so you don't have to start from scratch.
Thanx for your time and suggestions!

Re: Swap help (Black96Civic)
Correct me if im wrong here, but when you swap out your non-vtec engine for a vtec one doesnt that pretty much seal the deal with vtec? I have never done a swap myself, but i dont think there is anything to out of the ordinary other than just swapping motors. This mechanic probably doesnt know a damn thing about Honda's if hes saying he will do the swap but not do your vtec.....that just doesnt make sense.

Re: Swap help (Rydaddy)
well, he will have a vtec motor..you're right about that. but he also has to make it work by hooking up some vtec wires to the ecu...now the wiring part could get messy if you dont know what you're doing; thats why his mechanic said that he could put the motor in, but he's on his own when it comes to wiring. wiring is easy as cake once you figure out how to do it. did it help any?

Re: Swap help (Rspool)
Well, I got the car a short while ago, so I couldn't do the swap right away. However, it's got a lot of miles (250,000 km) and i don't figure the engine will last too much longer. When I do the actual swap, i was wondering how hard it would be to do the vtec because i've talked to some guys that said it took them a long time and that it's a pain. Thanx for your replies.

Re: Swap help (JV)
Thanks, I checked a lot of these internet sites and they seem to help, but most of them don't seem to elaborate too much on the wiring. I was just wondering if it's true what some ppl say that the wiring is gonna take a few days/weeks and if i could get it done without having had too much experience w/ this stuff.
