Surging idle on b18ba/b16a LS/Vtec
car ran fine right up until last night, middle of driving the car threw an engine code and now my idle is surging, after googling all morning i figured its time to make a thread specific to my problem.
If it threw a code, would that eliminate the FIV problem?
And i dont think my idle could just change like that could it? so i dont think i need to adjust said idle and reset my ECU
and i dont know if there is a code for vacuum leak...
Im lost as to what this code could be.
SO really my question is, before i drive across the city to my code reader, with this info i am wondering if anyone here with more experience than me can help me eliminate some of the common causes.
cliffs
1000-1500 rpm surge
threw a code
No thread i found said anything about a code showing up for this problem
help me

Re: Surging idle on b18ba/b16a LS/Vtec
Update
Car will no longer run after sitting over night
It fires up, revs to 2000 then stalls.
cant even floor it to keep it going, thus I am pretty sure since i am canadian and its -5 degrees. ( 32 degrees if youre in the states ) it would be the FITV acting up.
Now should a cleaning work? or should i just spoil myself and buy a new one?

Wont code read at all, Tried around 10 times to read it.
I got her to start and run, but shes in limp mode.
Cleaned everything i could on this engine, still no luck. so as she sits right now:
Fitv cleaned spotless
rev limited to 3000
surging idle
stalls every so often when idling
code wont read (paper clip)

clean IACV, no luck.
I guess i will hunt down vacuum leaks now,
I really wish i could just read this ****ing code.
Also, i noticed the person who had this before me wired in his constant power to his deck from a 30 amp wire, and backup fuse blows under the hood at 7.5
Could this have fried the ECU at all? causing such problems? I didnt think it would have since its been driving fine since i bought it 3 weeks ago.

well, i found a hose on the back of the intake that isnt plugged or have anything attached to it. When plugging it the idle changes but still surges.
ANyone know what it is or where it should go?
