Default Shot pinning LS rods, good idea?

For a LS/Vtec coversion with a 94 b18b would would having the stock LS rods shot pinned be a good idea along with adding APR rod bolts? With a block girdle, would it still be safe in the 8500 RPM range? What is involved in shot pinning, about how much does it cost, and is there anything else that can be done to the LS rod besides that and the APR bolts to improve apon it?

man ive heard so many opinions about the ls rods being shot peened, that i dont know what to believe.. i call pyr in houston and they say that the you dont have to that the ls rods are strong enough.. i call jotech in dallas they tell me the same ****...i talk to the machine shop that im getting my work at and they recomend it...theres like a 50/50 answer with every one... i decided to go ahead and shot peen them, theres a aircraft place that does them for the machine shop and it only was a 100 bucks to do it..... oh yeah when they shot peen them they polish them also.

Can someone give a run down of the shot pinning process and what exactly it does? I would like to call arround to my local machine shopes to see if anyone does it, but I want to know what Im talking about before I call so I don't sound stupid.

Does anyone know if the rods will be good to 8500 rpm w/apr rod bolts?

I had my rods shot peened on my last ls/vtec motor. Basically, they just shoot metal pelets at the rod to compress the metal on the rod. I would suggest getting some sort of block girdle, ie. gsr modified to fit or a z10 one. I revved my motor to 8k+ all the time without arp rod bolts. That was the only thing I didnt use with my build up. Just make sure you get your rotating assembly balanced and that your valvtrain can handle it. I had my motor in my car for over a year after the build up and it was still good when I decided to take it out.

do it.... shooting the pelets makes the rod more prone to hairline fractures...

after the rod is shot the surface tension is increased

edit how much did you guys pay for this proceedure??
