Secondaries not working.... Any Ideas??
My friend has a 94 cx with a 99 GSR motor. I checked all the wires and all of them are hooked up and running fine except secondaries. Secondaries is always open for some reason, and since the motor is obd2, I cant find the wiring diagram for the motor. Where is the secondary wire(s) located? What colors are they, and which one would I want to hook up to the ECU? And would the not hooking up the wire(s) make the secondaries stay open like this? I also get a CEL everytime I start the car, but its off when is in the 'ON' position. I'm mind boggled and need some help! Thanks.

your problem is simple. the obd1 ecu sends a negative signal to activate the IAB's. teh obd2 ecu send a positive signal. since you have an obd2 motor, and an obd1 ecu, you need to cut the wire (black i think) on the IAB plug and connect it to a 12V swithed source (hot what car is on). also, to run the signal wire, simply move the wire in A20 to A17 at the ecu.

So if it's a 95 GSR. What do you do with the IAB? I just connect the blk/yll to a power source, my friend connected straight to the battery, is it bad? I don't feel secondary kick in. Can someone give me step by step how to do it on OBD 1 gsr so I can double check what i did. Thank you

okay... i hooked up the black wire (negative sec. wire) to a power source and movied A20 to an empty hole on A17. and the wire started getting really hot and melted. then i hooked up the red wire (positive?) to the positive of the battery and the secondary closes. went for a test drive and didnt hear or feel anything at 5800. any ideas? thanks for the help so far!

did you hook up the signal wire to the ecu? you can use the wire at A20 also, move it to A17 and hook it up to the pink/blue? wire from the IAB.

ok, there are only 2 wires you need to worry about. they both come off the IAB. the black/yel wire needs to go to a 12V SWITCHED source. the pink/blue one needs to go to the ecu @ A17. like i said, use the wire @ A20. i think you might have had problems since you hooked it up to a constant power source.

okay, i think i know what i did wrong. instead of cutting the black wire and hooking it up to a hot power source, i spliced into it and connected it to a hot power source... hence the burning wire. im going to try it tomorrow and cut the black wire. i have already moved A20 to A17. thanks for all the help, greatly appreciated!

It's been like that for couple week. Will it kill IAB if I left the CONSTANT power going through yll/blk 24/7? Another word, did it burn out? Anyone can teach me the true meaning of IAB? What does it do, how it function?

okay heres exactly what i did....
i cut the black wire on the IAB (secondary?) and connected that to the same power that the autometer tach is using. then i moved the red wire that was in A20 to A17 that was empty. still nothing. is there 3 wires?? the only wires i see is a red/blue one and a black one coming out of the plug (secondary/IAB?) underneath the IM.

hook up the plug side to the switched source, not the harness side. the evap is on the top of the manifold i think, it is not related in any way to the IAB's. it has a black/yel wire and a red one i think. make sure at the driverside shock tower, the pink/blue wire (IAB) is connecting to the red/black? wire (just make sure it eventually gets to the ecu). i think the red wire that was in A20 is red/black in the harness.

Re: Secondaries not working.... Any Ideas?? (ozzyman)
I had the same IAB nightmares. I finally hooked up the IAB manually, because I couldn't get the ECU to control them. I ran one wire to ground, and another to a switch, then to positive on the battery. If i wanted to open them, i had to hit the switch. It was really annoying when I'd get to 5750rpm and have to manually reach over the push the switch.
I finally said **** it all and bought a skunk2 manifold.

Re: Secondaries not working.... Any Ideas?? (hybridhatch18)
To make this work correctly through the ecu you have to have both the IAB valve (intake air bypass) and IAB solenoid working correctly together for the secondaries to work at all. Its going to be tricky since you have an obd1 engine with obd2 harness.

Re: Secondaries not working.... Any Ideas?? (gsrteg)
can anyone explain how to make my secondaries work in my set up? i have a 94 hatch cx and i have a 99 GSR motor running an obd1 gsr ecu. Be very descriptive like this. connect the (color) wire to the Evap (which is on top of Intake mani) just example k.

Okay, let me try to shed some light in this. I have a 00 B18C1 in my 93 hatch CX and my **** works thanks to Mike (92SleepR, IM him if you cannot understand this post). The IAB wires are blu/red and blk. The blue/red has to be connected to a 12V source, we used the yel/blk wires that power the injectors located on the right side shock tower. Switch Pins A17 to A20.
As for OBDI engines, the IAB wires are pnk/blu and blk. and all you need to do is switch pins A17 and A20. Make sure the connections is clean.
Here is a pic of my IAB solenoid, hope this helps:

Re: Secondaries not working.... Any Ideas?? (Guardson3r3)
gauardson why does it look like that the black wire is hooked up to something else besides the iab? and when you hooked up the red/blue wire to the 12V power source, did you cut the red/blue wire and which side did you connect the power source too (the harness side or the side still connnected to the plug) or did you just splice into the red/blue wire?
