Default Safe to heat Axel hub nut?

Is it safe to heat the axel hub nut with a propane torch to ease removing it?

Mine just bent my breaker bar!

TIA.

youll probably need to put some impact to it, before trying to remove it. But i wouldnt recommend heating it.

I was thinking about how hot my wheels get when racing and I figure the propane torch won't get them that hot.

Off to try it. Liquid Wrench has been at work for an hour.

Don't worry. I didn't mean taking the torch to the wheels.

It didn't work though. Another Liquid Wrench bath and I'll try again tomorrow.

your torch will get it alot hotter than your braking ever will,

heating it will only make it brittle, not good for fasteners if oyu don't do it right

Dont forget to unstake the nut. Impact gun really helps. Lots of wd-40.

Impact guns are nice but not everyone has access to air tools. Anyway, yes you can heat the axle nut to help remove it. The use of a nice 3-4 foot metal pipe on a 1/2" breaker bar usually does the trick.

if you still have the tires on the car and you can access the hub with the rim on. that is the easiest way. and usually will get it off with some force

heating it will work, that is usually my last resort but it is a tried and tested method. Best is a 3/4" impact gun.
