Default Rewired car -> back to stock, which engine?

Hey guys, I rewired the interior of my car (97 civic dx) to use a 2000 civic si ecu. Now I am looking at putting it back to stock, or maybe selling it as a rolling chassis.

If I were to put an engine back into it would I use a 99-00 ex engine (not sure of code)? Or would a DX engine work as well? Do you know average prices of said engines?

Thanks for you help guys.

The year of the engine really doesn't matter because you can make any that would bolt in work. What does matter would be the year of engine harness and ECU that you choose if you are wanting it to be plug and play without doing any wiring or using an ECU adapter. I guess if you were to rewire it back to stock (not sure exactly how or what you did) you would need a 96-98 engine harness and ECU.
All 96-00 EX engine's are a D16Y8 and the 96-00 DX/CX/LX are a D16Y7. You can get mid to low mileage Y8 longblocks for about 500-800 and Y7 longblocks for 300-500 on average.

I definitely don't want to rewire the dash (which I did to use the 2000 si ecu). I guess I was wondering if a 2000 b16a2 would bolt directly into a 99-00 civic (b/c it would work backwards for me). I didn't think those single cam swaps were that expensive.
