Default Redrilling 4x100 to 5x114.3 a bad idea?

Is redrilling a disc/rotor hat from 4 x 100 to 5 x 114.3 a bad idea? I thought this was common practice for people doing the cheap ITR brake upgrade with Prelude discs. I took my 4 lug StopTech hats to a machine shop and they weren't too interested in re-drilling the bolt pattern.
Thanks
Ben
