PLEASE Help, I have searched. Classic 86 Accord Lxi swap info..(Lets get some info in here)
Like it says. This has been a project that I have been wanting to do for many years. The car has just been sitting around motorless for about 4 yrs. Place racing used to offer a kit, but they are now out of business. As far as what I want to do, I am not sure yet. I just want to make some newre motors work and possibly convert to obd 1. Once I can figure out what motors/info could work, I can get started from there....

Here is some info I found on 3geez.com;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The B20A is the engine found in the 2nd Generation of Preludes and 3rd Generation Accord in Japan (and some Europe countries). This is a DOHC EFI engine.
This engine has 160 Hp and 140 lb/ft Torque
This is NOT the same B20A engine as the ones found in the 88-91 preludes.
The B20A from the 88-91 Prelude will not bolt to the Accord. The engine mounts are totaly different.
You can tell appart the engines just by looking at them. The B20A for the Accord leans forward (towards the radiator) while the B20A from the Prelude leans backwards (to the firewall).
Here comes the tricky part. The engine from the 88-91 Prelude will be labeled B20A5 or B20A(Japan) while the Accord engine will be labeled B20A (Japan) B20A2/B20A7(Europe). Both Accord and 88-91 preludes will have the B20A label without any other significant mark. It's really important that you look at the engine carefully to determine if it's the "correct" B20A
Both B20A engines have their own transmission. This means that the Transmission from the 3rd gen Accord/2nd Gen Lude B20A will not bolt to the 3rd Gen Lude B20A. The A Series transmission will not work either on the 3rd gen Accord/2nd Gen Lude B20A
The transmission numbers for the B20A are F2K5 and B2K5. This is easier to tell them apart if you have the numbers.
To do the B20A swap, you will need at least the following :
1- Engine
2- Transmission
3- Rear transmission mount (different from the A20Ax)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now just to complicate things more, there are 2 types of 3rd gen Accord/2nd Gen Lude B20A
It doesn't really matter which one you will get because they have both 160HP. The only difference is the intake manifold and valve cover color.
The 1st version of the Accord B20A has a gold valve cover and uses the same idle controls found on the 86-87 A20A
The 2nd version of the B20A has a black valve cover and uses the same idle controls as the 88-89 A20A
It's advised to get the proper version of that B20A but it's not really a problem. The A20A shares it's intake manifold with the JDM B20A. So, if you don't have the correct version for your EFI system, you can install your A20A intake manifold.
The B20A2/B20A7 from the EURO Accord is a little different, it has a lower power rating (137 HP I beleive) and has only a black valve cover for both versions. Some versions use a vacuum advance distributor like the A20A
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update
There is a way to install the JDM B20A if you don't want to change our A20A ECU or wire harness.
To do so, you need the following:
1- Integra 86-87 Distributor (if your B20A had electronic advance)
2-Integra 86-87 Crank Sensor (if you get the teg drstributor)
3-A20A wire harness (EFI)
4-A20A ECU
5-Prelude 90-91 exhaust manifold upper part if you have a 88-89 Accord (it needs 2 O2 sensor inputs)
Just hook-up those on the B20A and your engine should work fine. You won't get the optimal power but everything can be compensated.
There is also hope for the carbed guys.
Since the B20A shares it's intake manifold with the A20A, you can use your stock carbed intake manifold and slam a Weber 38 on it. Also upgrade the fuel pump and this will make sure the B20A gets enough fuel and you don't even need to convert your car to EFI.
However, you will need to get an Integra distributor too if you want the engine to work fine under acceleration.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The B20A share some components with the USDM B20A but it's really limited.
Here are the HONDA OEM part numbers that matched between the engines
Rings (both JDM and USDM)
13011-PK1-003
13011-PK1-004
13021-PK1-003
13021-PK1-004
13031-PK1-003
13031-PK1-004
Pistons (JDM)
13101-PH3-010
13102-PH3-010
13103-PK2-000
13105-PK2-000
Pistons (USDM)
13101-PK2-000
13102-PK2-000
13103-PK2-000
13105-PK2-000
Rods (Both JDM and USDM)
13210-PK2-000
Clutch (Both JDM and USDM)
22200-PK1-000
The pressure plate is interchangeable too but aren't the same part number
JDM
22300-PH3-J00
USDM
22300-PK2-000
The crank is a near match so it may work too.
JDM:
13310-PH3-010
USDM:
13310-PH3-020
So I can't confirm it's compatible but it's close
The ECU will not match but the Prelude ECU can make it run without problem.
Here are the ECU numbers for the B20A (Euro version)
83305-SE3-010ZD
83305-SE3-010ZB
83305-SE3-010ZE
83305-SE3-010ZG
Here are part numbers for the JDM ECU
37820-PH3-063 (ECU 88-89)
37820-PH3-900 (ECU 86-87)
Most of the parts can be obtained in America except for a few JDM only parts.
So far here are the parts that are JDM only
Camgears
Crank sprocket
Distributor (with the cap)
Timing belt
Oil pan gasket
