ODB1 P72 w/ Hondata on H series motor?
anyone running a GSR odb1 ECU with H22a setup and HONDATA?
and did you do the ecu chipping yourself?
also anyone care to explain the benefits of a tuned gsr ecu over the p13..
is it true you loose tq or something since its not the right ecu ?

The benefits of using a tuned GSR ecu is that you can further develep your fuel and timing maps to get rid of the known Vtec lag you get around 4 to 5k and also up maximize your peak hp and torque numbers. With the stock P13 you pretty much have the Ecu was programmed with, with little room for adjustment..
Downsides.... With hondata you will need dynotuning for it to run right, which means you will spend more money..
BTW, which stage are you planning on getting.. Since we are both close I wouldnt mind splitting the cost of getting a stage 4...

Haven't done it myself, but the P72 is the recommended ECU for the H22.
Hondata hasn't figured out how to chip a P13 yet. There shouldn't be any loss since the P72 can control the IAB. It's the ONLY hondata capable ECU that could.

now ..i'll have me a GSR ecu in a few days.. then its onto the hondata ..but i wasnt planning on stage 4, its super $$ with features that i wouldnt need like the stage 4 rom and editor and stuff.. when i can get that from someone that has the stage 4 already...basically for $295 stage2 is very worth it, u can change idle, fuel, vtec, and has good features, i dont think i need the 3 stage rev limit and the full throttle shift.. etc...

For all motor you really only need stage 1, stage 2 if you want the extra options. The other stages are more for forced induction and isn't really needed. Go to http://www.hondata.com to check out the different stages for yourself. Also can I use a p28 ecu and hondata to tune my b20 in my civic hb?

BTW, I've even tried out a Hondata on a P72.... worked alright but I couldn't get it tuned to where the power felt very noticable (like a Spoon P13 does at high rpms).

I'm using a P28 ecu with stage 4b Hondata in my 92 civic Si with a built Tubro motor and 650 RC's. I went to the Tunes library on Hondata's website and used the Type-r program and changed the injector size and told it i was using a P28 ecu. My car is now runnng and running very good that is. Just need to get another 1,000 miles and i will get my boost controller hooked up then slowly work my way up to just over 20psi.

Just FYI, a stock P72 ECU runs dangerously lean on an H22A...
Here's a plot with Wideband O2 readings:
That A/ F ratio is approaching 15:1 in some areas... VERY dangerous. The motor will not last very long like that...
This setup requires a good deal of tuning. It would be good to use for Hondata. But you cannot just plug it in with the stock maps and run safely...

hmm, that dyno is putting out good power IMO, is that tuned or is that a direct plug of the ecu and then dyno? so with better tuning then it can pull out some good power hmm?

Is it possible to use p28 ecu with hondata to tune a b20/vtec? Or will I have to get the chip reprogrammed from kenji or someone else?
