Default obd2a ls/vtec question

im bout to do an ls vtec in my 97 hatch, and i was recently told if its not running an obd2a ecu when i take it to maryland emission it will fail, so i was wondering if there is any other routes to go, as in using a obd2 gsr or si ecu or another, or could i just use the obd till i take to emission and just switch back to the obd2 just so it will pass, i mean they dont start car since its obd2 they just scan to see if the cels are on or not. please lmk thnx

The best Way is to do it as you said.

Tune your car on OBD1 , and when you go for emissions install a usdm obd2a Vtec ecu. GSR, type R .

You will have to have a crank angle sensor for the obd2a ecu not to throw a code. so Remember that when doing your motor build .
