Default OBD-0 b17a throwing code 23 (knock)? How?

OK, here's a link to my car, and set up.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=902319

It's a b17a with a c5 head, ys1 b17 tranny, in an EF, with an OBD-0 pr3 ecu.

Now, it is my knowledge that 4g civics, and 2g crx's (being pre-obd) only have 20 codes. But somehow I'm getting a code 23 (two long flashes, three short flashes). So how is my ecu giving me a code that didn't exist when my ecu was made? I'm so lost.
