new to hondas... 91 civic si engine swap questions
hey guys... pretty hardcore into vw's... my 02 gti just got wrecked and im looking for a fresh daily driver... something i havent done to death... thinking about getting a honda... maybe an 89-91 civic si. im told these can be had in relatively non-rusty condition for around $1500... i would pretty immediately want to do an engine swap and ive been asking around and i hear a 99,00 si motor would be a good choice because of its price and weight... the whole swap (motor trans wiring blah blah blah) is said to be available for a shade over $2000... anyone know of someone who has done this? do the motor mounts bolt right up? any serious issues with wiring? how about the gauge cluster? any and all info will be appreciated... i can handle all the mechanics of the swap my self and i can do the wiring with the diagrams handy, but i just want to know if this is possible... i keep getting visions of a 91 civic si with about 180 hp on coilovers and vw 4x100 BBS RM's... thoughts?

Re: new to hondas... 91 civic si engine swap questions (vwfan)
you would be best off buying an older b16 motor (OBD0). These swaps cost about $1100 and can be purchased on the net from http://www.hmotorsonline.com, among other sites.
You will need a mount kit to bolt this into your 88-91 civic. Hasport and HCP make nice mounts and also sell the custom shift linkage that you will need.
If your Civic is an SI, you will only need to add four wires for the swap: o2 sensor, vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure, and knock sensor. The stock gauge cluster is fine.
