Default New discoveries with my EK-22

Ok, I have been looking up how to check if my engine is JDM or not, and then checked my car out...
I was told the engine was a 92-96 H22A1, BUT...
After the research and a closer look at my car I have discovered what I believe is to be that my engine is actually a 97 H22A...

This being said, how big of a difference will this make on thinking the engine was a ~93?
Meaning difference in HP? Possibilities? Prices for parts?

I recently did an axle swap using the Additional H22A Civic Axle Information Thread thinking my engine was a ~93 in 2000 Civic SI, Is this going to make a difference?

Let me know what you guys think and here are pictures of my IDs...

And yes, all the rusted parts are to be replaced shortly...

Thanks guys

Well, I have done some research, I wanted a second, knowledgeable set of eyes to take a look... plus there is more than one issue that I'm concerned about, which is listed...

I believe the h22a came from the type s and the sir s spec. It had like 220hp iirc..its a good motor.. Does it have the red valve cover?

I guess what I'm looking to get answered is, should I be running OBD2, or is the OBD1 with convertion harness okay?

This finding just has me a little messed up.

Really? If its h22a, should have red.. Well anyway, h's are sweet man. And if you plan on modding the car more than just bolt ons, then youll need p28(easiest ecu to use) but if only you want basic bolt ons, then obd2 is fine. Look up the ecu for that motor, buy it, and your good.

well I'm currently running a P13, with the OBD1 wiring convertion...
BUT since I now know its a '97... ugh...

I have a P28 sitting in my back seat, but when it is plugged up it causes the idle to drop VERY low... But the P28 is chipped for a '93 H22A1...

Now, I have a guy that I believe can rewrite my chip, but should I even do that and keep the OBD2 to OBD1 converter, or should I just remove the harness and get an OBD2 ECU?

First off the hmo stamp just means it came from hmotorsonline which is a good thing.. All h22a's did not come with a red valve cover.. It is a jdm motor.. To the right of the yr stamp should be some letters and numbers take a picture of those and also the intake manifold and then we'll go frome there.. If i was you i would run the stock ecu unless you get it tuned whether that be dyno or street..

Based on the one pic that had h22a on the block, since the h22a only came with the red valve cover. Its safe to assume as such. But your right sir, further investigation is needed. And he also dont have the right ecu. OP, go on ebay and pick one up. But watch out because sometimes the info can be very misleading. For example, a pic will say p28 on the ecu, but the title will say 92 93 94 95 ex/si d16z6 b16a2 ecu honda..if you dont know what the code is, youll buy the wrong ecu lol. So look online the obd2a prelude type s (if it is indeed type s jdm) then go searching on ebay

Just because it is stamped h22a does not mean its a type s or euro r motor.. It simply means it is a jdm block..

This is probably what the op has.. 97-98 spec

Looks like a wiring mess under the hood. Before swapping ECU's check over the harness as well. the intake manifold you have appears to be an obd1, also looks like a resistor box on the firewall as well which determines the injectors in use and would be a reason your p28 does not work with this setup.

I would Spend some time cleaning that header, maybe remove it get it blasted and coated or polish it out. The rest of the engine just needs some good cleaning.

Alot of the wiring mess is those crappy ebay halo headlights...
I'll take a couple more pics around the engine later today...
Where is the resistor box located?
The header is still the factory H22 header, ill be get a new one.
