Need technical input from a seasoned swap genius
I have an 88 civic hatch running OBD1 with a B17A motor. My question is what materials/procedures are required to swap to a Type R motor?

All your mounts in there except for the tranny one are fine. I'm not sure if places sell mounts itemized like you would need, I think you might need a whole mount kit, which will be in the $600 range (HASport).
One thing you could do to combat that last problem is keep the B17A tranny on there, and sell the type R tranny. Why would you do this? The Type R tranny/clutch is hydrolic, the chasis runs of a cable tranny/clutch. You can buy conversion kits, but IMHO, it makes things a mess=no bueno.
Then you'll need the wiring harness with the Type R motor, and a OBD-II __> OBD-I harness converter.
Like I said, keep the B17A Tranny, that way, you'll have no axle issues either, put the Type R tranny in, and you'll have to get custom axles. The tranny isn't worth the headache.

Im not swap genius, but I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I'm not 100% sure about the mounts so I will leave that to someone else.
I also think it would be easier (and cheaper) to keep the b17 tranny.
I have a good friend who bought a Place Racing cable to hydro conversion (for a type R tranny in his DA) and hated it!!!
It took almost all your strength to push down the clutch pedal and the conversion piece actually rubbed on his 4-1 header. He eventually paid a shop to build him a completely custom unit.
Also if you already have a b17 running obd1, then you should be able to use the harness that is currently on the car, if you put the obd1 distributor, injectors, and alternator on the type R motor.

Yeah, now that I think more about, you could take what Slopoke said and add to that the B17A oil pump, thats different too.
I think that should take care of things right there.

Obviously I'd keep the YS1 cable tranny but why would I need to retain the B17 oil pump? I believe the R oil pump is good enough.

OBD-I and OBD-II oil pumps are different, unless you wire OBD-II. The Type R motor has the CKS Crank position/speed sensor mounted on top of the pump, and has a mounting location for the pickup. The B17A has the CKS in the distributor, that would set an enging code.
