Default Motor Choice Help Needed

I have a 92 CX 5psd. I've been trying to decide what motor to swap into there. I've been going back and forth on a B18C, B16A2, B18B, LS/VTEC, CR/VTEC, and even a H22. Its going to be mostly used on the street, I might go to the track whenever I have time. But mostly on the street. This has probally been posted tons of times, but I can't find anything using the search. Also, I don't have tons of money, so the the best motor (in your opinon) and also something economical too. Thanks guys. Jin

well if you are lookin at spending lil cash and see nice hp numbers def dont go h22, ls/vtec or cr/vtec. b18c go for 3200 and b16a jdm sir II go for 2350 form HMO. (www.hmotorsonline.com) with the b16 i would say it makes good enough power for track/street depending on your set up of course. b18c would be a bit faster as it has .2 extra liters and produces more torque. the choice is your which motor you want. if i was you id go b16 turbo with the extra money you would have from not buying the gsr and youd be faster. just my opinion. good luck with your cah

So its really not worth the extra to throw down on a GSR as opposed to the B16. I was kinda thinking of that B16 from HMO for 1800. Thats the swap minus the axles I think. So it would be a better idea to go with the B16 and get a turbo later. But if I'm gonna turbo it wouldn't I rather get more displacement and go with the B18C? Anyways thanks for the reply.

I would recomend a b18c. Its 1000 dollars more but has alot more potential, NA or turbo. Chances are you wont be going turbo for awhile, so spending that extra k to get some real torque would be better. Save the b16's for CRX's and turbo projects, if winnin street races is important to you then get the b18c. The difference between the b18 and b16 is more then what it appears (10hp). you could be a runin a whole second quicker in the 1/4 with the b18c compared to a similar moded b16.

i say do some research. everybody gets what THEY want in the end. dont let somebody tell you what to get. even if a swap costs a bit more. if you really want it. save up. do it right once so then you dont regret it. good luck

like, i say b16 cuz thats what im getting. b man says b18 cuz he favors that motor. dont get a swap till you know the motor. peace

I'm thinking about going H22A now, cus HMO has a special for H22A's with LSD for 2500 plus another 500 for HAsport Motor mounts. I think this would be a good route to go. I'm thinking 200HP and lots of torque. I'm definately doing my suspension with Tanabe Sustec Pro s-0's and doing some sort of brake upgrade. I have heard about this swap to be front heavy, bad handling, etc. I'm not sure if it will still be like that after I do the suspension and brakes. Any info on this? Thanks

The H22 motor is heavier, but theres ways of dealing with that. And the handling isnt as bad as some people say. If i had a civic with an H22 i would lighten the front as much as possible. CB hood, take out the PS, get a non PS steering rack, take out the AC, and relocate the battery to the trunk. That would make up for the extra weight of the motor.

Actually, I'm now at square one. I went to Import Revolution aka Rice Fest 2003. Somehow finding a JDM niche withen the walls of McCormick Place. Guy with H22 was there said, it rocked the strip and street, but the handling sucked so bad, that he wished he went B-series. I'm now definately going B... Hopefully a B16B, B16A2, or B18C. Dunno yet. and Maybe I'll never know
