Default LSVtec or CRVtec all motor..

Ok here is the deal..
I already have the makings for the LSVtec in the mighty Civic rally car. Currently I am running a straight B18B and could surely use a bit more power. Its a rally car so low end is really important but I don't want to dig up a B20 b or z if im not really going to feel much difference. Also reliability is HUGE in rally, it must last.

1. Look at your car, its insanely light
2. you dont need the ridicoulous torque the b20 will give you
3. if you already have the ls going, and its not giving you problem, stick with it.

the b20 is a low rev engine, if you put a vtec head on it you will need to get custom sized internals to bump up your rod ratio or else you will never take advtange of vtec realiably.

the same actualy goes for the ls/vtec thing as well. Vtec likes to be reved high, engines such as the LS and B20 dont, so there is conflict.

just something to chew on.

Keep the b18 and give it some Cams, Compression, & b16 tranny. You don't need no stinking v-tec yO.. If ef chasis thoat's all you need for a sreamer. but i don't know nothing about nothing.

Ever think about a GSR. More power plus that stock reliability.

B18c5 would be the better choice for rallying. It has better low-end torque and much better top-end and also you wouldn't have to worry about reliabilty y0!!!

b18c5 would make a HORRIBLE ralley engine

I'd stick with the LS and just toss some parts at it.

care to explain why? this i'd like to hear..

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">the b20 is a low rev engine, if you put a vtec head on it you will need to get custom sized internals to bump up your rod ratio or else you will never take advtange of vtec realiably.

bullshit.. lsvtec's can rev fine without the "custom sized internals" you speak of (i'm assuming you mean custom rod lengths to give an 'ideal' r/s ratio).. i'm guessing you've never built an ls/crvtec and really have no experience with it.. r/s ratio is hardly an issue and i still don't understand why people like to make such a big deal out of it.. i know of several personally (not to mention the other thousand's of them out there) that are being 'zinged' to 9000rpm's daily while still retaining the "crappy, unideal stock r/s ratio".. how is that so if there's such a "conflict"?

to answer the main question i'd say stick with the ls motor.. have you even been to a 'ralley' event yet (i'm guessing yes by the picture but you never know)? if you have been, you should realize that your driving has a ways to go before you're going to benefit from any horsepower gains.. i'd say keep DRIVING the car and maximize what you've got before you dive headfirst into a rebuild.. just my $.02
