LS/VTEC worth it?
ok i have a 90' crx si. i was thinking of starting a new project on teh side of building up an ls/vtec would it be worth it to build or should i put a different motor in besides ls/vtec?

depends what your looking for you need to provide more info . budget , how much performance you want , is it goin to be daily driver , are you gonna drag race , autocross stuff like that
sorry. drag race, not daily driver at all. buget doesnt matter it will just take longer to build. i want it fully built so would it be worth it or just go with a swap? like gsr or sumthin?
ok well i have decided to build an ls/vtec. should i have a gsr head or b16? what would be best to put on it????? also any tips and or things to look out for? i would greatly apreciate all answers

ive got my ls vtec (drag motor) pretty much worked out, but when i put the 120 shot wet nitrous on it, it still overheats, i think its the sleves. its alot of headache, but alot of fun
if you want reliablility, just go gsr or b16
u can get more power out of a b16 because it revs higher more reliably. remember hp = (torquexrpm)/5252 so the more rpm, the more hp. and ls has longer rods, wich is more torque (the other variable in the hp equation), but 1) the cyl walls wont hold (rod ratio) 2) the rods wont hold 3) there arent any oil squirters in the ls block (you can rev high with ls if you have rod bolts, but eventually, your pistons will give cause there isnt sufficient lubrication). soo... go b16 or gsr
i think this has been coverd like 1 million times : P
oh btw, for the pin, drill the block, not the head, cause eventually, youd want to put the head back on a B series engine, maybe</TD></TR></TABLE>
i dont even know where to begin on this one....

depends how much power your trying to make, depends what sleves you get
ive's seen crvtec's bored out to 85mm safely, wiseco has a piston kit for it.
the most reliable lsv ive seen was 82mm, and there are many kits for that.
the cheapest way to go is sleve the block, and use ctr pistons, stock bore. cause this way if you blow the motor, u know u burned a piston and not the block (cause u sleved it), and it's cheap to replace just a piston.

wouldnt that hurt the cylinder walls? also my secondary o2 sensor is out in my crx. could i get a 4 wire o2 sensor and not have to have the secondary o2 sensor?
usually it doesnt, it just dings up a little, nothing you cant hone out. the sleves are steel (hard), pistons are aluminum(soft) so its ok, and usually you dont break or shatter a piston, u just burn it up so you lose compresssion. i say its cheaper cause you dont have to pull the motor, you can do it in the car, and if you have a strong piston (aftermarket), then it will damage the cyl wall. so it all depends what your trying to do. if your trying to make 500hp, dont go lsv : P do you use aim?
i dont plan on making it the fastest in the world. i just want to make it pretty damn quick. LOL. i mena i want to upgrade all the valvetrain, turbo it, pistons, cams, gears, and not much more than that. i know it will be $expensive$ but its my project so i have all the time in the world. LOL!
ahh, if you want to turbo it, the ls rods wont hold, unless you get them shotpened. ive had shotpened ls rods hold 300hp no prob.
if you have $$ and you want turbo, i would get aftermarket pistons and rods + sleves
keep stock bore size just incase you ever f something up, then you can +10bore
cheapest way to go for turbo is get sleves, shotpeen ls rods, b16 pistons, thick head gasket . i think you could hold 300hp for a while.
oh yes, and a side order of springs + retainers please
there are cheaper ways to go fast, its not worth it to do all this to a lsv (my opinion)
for fun as a challenge, turbo yes, for cheap and fast, all motor lsv : P
