Default ls/vtec problems

Well I have an ls/vtec swap in my 97 hatchback runs ok. I worked out some of the problems in it but there are still some things i need to work out. First thing is I am not throwing any codes, so i guess i did the wiring right. But some of the things I have noticed is that after the motor is warmed up it seems to idle fine, around 900-950 rpms i know its a little high but is seems fine to me, but when I take it out for a spin and I come to a stop sign it idles at 1500 rpms then sometimes drops down to about 900ish. I haven't cleaned my iacv so I am thinking that might be it. I have checked for vaccum leaks there aren't none. Also when i drive as I go up in RPM's it feels a little slughish and sometimes pops or backfires when i let off the gas. I changed the cap and rotor, checked my timing and it is at 16 degrees btc, and compensated my valve timing due to my milled head and decked block. Fuel pressure is at 40psi with hose connected. I am not to sure why that is doing it. Any suggestions? This is my daily driver and I just want it running better than it is before i really mess something up.
Well here is my set up:
b16 head milled .008
gsr cams
b18b block decked .005
pr3 pistons
stock headgasket
ls throttle body
aebs intake mani
stock injectors
p73 ecu
stock fuel pump
b&M fpr
header/straight exhaust w/12in resonator to 5zigen muffler (no cat)

Also i have my pcv disconnected but i plan on hooking it up tonight when i clean the iacv. and is it ok to use brake cleaner to clean the iacv instead of carb cleaner? Thanks in advance

Your idle problem could be caused by your lack of a pcv system. in fact, id more than bet it is.
