Default ls/vtec pistons question

I read that someone had ctr pistons and was using 91 octaine gas and still messed up the motor.
My concern is that, i'm planning on doing a ls/vtec with a b16 head, and b16 pistons. Can i use 89 grade gasoline, or would i face problems with lower level of octanes.

no. with pr3 or p30 pistons, your compression will be anywhere from 11:1-11.4:1.

You would need to really run 93 octane with this compression, but 91 would work as long as you don't advance the timing any. Also, make sure you have plenty of fuel with compression like this. I blew my brand new lsvtec up after my stock fuel pump crapped out on me. make sure you order a b series or upgraded fuel pump.

man with gas prices rising i would suck to use higher octane gas.
