Ls/vtec no spark
Hey guys I'm new to this forum. Sorry if I sound dumb but I've been out for 10 years and finally just acquired a 98 civic with a blow motor. I picked up a ls vtec complete motor and swapped it in and I cant get it to start. I came with a chipped p72 ecu and when I tried to crank it, I get no fuel and no spark. So I slapped on the stock p2p ecu and I get fuel now but still no spark. What do you think it might be? Car is a 98 civic ex stock d16y8 and swap is b18b1 block with gsr head and trans. The car will crank but cant get it to run. The person I bought the motor from said it ran fine before he pulled it and i bought it but I cant figure out why I cant get it to run.
I haven't tried swapping the distributor but I did swap out the coil rotor and cap and still not getting any spark. I also changed the plugs and wires with no results. I'm confused. The motor should still start with the p2p ecu correct? Or should I find a working obd1 ecu?
I also forgot to mention, after installing the motor I was being impatient and went to fire up the motor without connecting the starter cable. It was grounded on the transmission and the ground wire from the battery started smoking. I'm not sure if this caused any other damage. I checked all fuses and they seem okay.
