Default LS VTEC Info

My friend is putting a B16A2 head on his LS bottom and I was wondering what the specs(horse power, torque, etc) are on this set up? Also is it true that the bottom end will only be safe to rev until 6300 with the stock LS internals? He was also told to get a vtec controller instead of an ecu, is that right? Any other tips or recommendations for the swap would be appreciated.

Its really hard to say what the horspower would be. It all depend on the condition of the motor. Again it depends on the the condition are on your stock internals. When i built my friend an ls vtec stock head and bottom end, he would rev it to 7000 rpm. And it seemed safe. But he got curious and rev it to 8000 rpm every other day. Then the motor started to show sign of problems. Had this motor for 8 months and threw a rod after 8 months. Again this is with a high mileage block with a b16 head.

What ecu was he planning on running with the vtec controller? Honestly i wouldn't do that. I would get a vtec ecu, something like a p30 or p72, and then use it with a vtec controller to do your tuning.

Make sure to use a new headgasket, check your head to see if its warped. Get golden eagle dowel pin. It just make the process of putting the head on the block easier. Maybe get it resurface. For extra insurance get some arp head studs. But take your time and double check everything.

He is still gonna use the LS ecu, which I heard was not right, but the shop says its okay. They told him that he shouldn't rev above 6300 because it will put stress on the bottom end. And yes he is having a machine shop inspect the head because there were some bent valves and there was apparently a compression issue, which was why the motor was taken out. I dont know how many miles are on the head or the bottom end, just that the head came off a 99-00 civic si and the bottom is a 95 LS.
