Default Ls/Vtec distributor question.

okay people.... before all the posts of searching comes up i want to say that i did search, but got no specifics on the answers i'm lookimg for.

i'm running an OBD2 LS dizzy on a 'converted to OBD1' B16 head using a HONDATA s200 ecu.
my questions are:

1. what differenciates the LS OBD2 dizzy from the OBD1 dizzy?

2. what differenciates the b16 (VTEC) OBD2 dizzy from the VTEC OBD1 dizzy?

3. besides the modifications (machining off the lobes) what're the differences to the LS and VTEC dizzys?

4. does it matter that i'm using an LS OBD2 dizzy? i've read that i should use the same OBD dizzy for the ECU that i'm running, but then again some people say that it doesn't matter. of is it just preference?

can someone set me straight and let me know what to do. i'm not gonna waste money on a 'VTEC' dizzy if it's not gonna do anything for me. and if i do have reasonable facts that state otherwise, what OBD dizzy should i get?????

i was also wondering if the coils and all the other internals put out the same spark charge. is there any difference or any arching with the various swaps.

1. the plug layout is differnt between OBD1/2 dizzys (both non-vtec & vtec). If you wish to convert just color match the wires to the pinouts & swap plugs.

2. Same differences as stated above.

3. Obviously the physical design & mounting points between VTEC & NON-VTEC dizzy's are apparent, but I'm not quite sure (internally) what's differnt; calibrations between non-vtec & vtec dizzy's could be a reason which could be the reason why when LS dizzy's hacked up to work on a VTEC head don't last long.

4. OBD1 & OBD2 ecu's are forward & backwards compatible with OBD1/2 injectors & dizzy's. This is a fact and will not be an issue.

5. Trust me, I suggest you get a B-series VTEC distributor. There's been people on here that have tried what you're planning to do and their LS dizzy crapped out down the road; they even complained of idling issues; once they went with a VTEC dizzy their problems went away. Start your engine off right and go with a B VTEC dizzy.

PS: The coil & ignitors are the same between B-series & D-series dizzy's, respective to their OBD type. For instance, OBD1 SOHC & DOHC VTEC & NON-VTEC coils & ignitors can be swapped around with each other, it doesn't matter if its from a SOHC/DOHC engine.
