Those of you who know me know that ive been around the honda scene for almost eight years. Ive owned a total of six Hondas, including two turbo'd B-series Civics and etc. After the sale of my beloved Del Sol B18C turbo in the fall of 03, I swore that I would never build another honda. Shortly thereafter my girlfriend purchased an 03 RSX-S. Driving the RSX over the course of about a year began to give me the itch to own another honda.. however I held firm that again, i would NOT build another honda. Ironically, this past summer, my father passed down to me his 1998 Milano red Civic DX coupe... Needless to say.. within a months time I was already shopping for ideas to build it.

In November of 05 while 'browsing' on ebay i stumbled across a K20A2 from an 04 RSX-S. Knowing what the motor felt like in my GF's RSX, I became curious about doing the project into my civic (which, mind you- weighs considerably less). I contacted the seller (who turned out to be a 50 year old tow truck driver who had acquired the car when it was abandoned at the towing place after being totalled!!) and he was eager to make a fast sale with me (and at a price that i absolutely COULD NOT refuse). Lets just say that a 50 year old tow truck driver who lives in rural upstate NJ doesnt really know much about the value of a K20A2 to a honda enthusiast.

Anyway.. at the same time i picked up the swap i was also able to get an A-spec wing for the wife and a set of black leather RSX front buckets. (soooo sweet)..

Well.. needless to say.. in the spring of 06. I will be BUILDING ANOTHER HONDA.

The purpose of this thread is to share my experiences with others as I proceed with my project. I have always felt that this was one of the best parts of the hobby. I also have always enjoyed reading these types of threads; (where people post their projects and others get to follow allong step by step over the course of a few weeks or even months (as will be the case with my project thanks to winter in New England) and am really excited to post one of my own. Since Ive done several B series honda projects, im also really excited to be doing something 'different'.

This thread will span over the next few months. Because its cold and I do not have a warm place to work right now, the swap itself will likely begin in March. Between now and then I will be gathering parts and prepping my engine bay getting ready to paint it and swap in the K20. I will keep everyone posted with everything i do to the car between now and then.

Before we begin, I would like to thank my good friend Louis (HybridKoop) for all of his efforts in helping me with this project. I would also like to thank my lovely girlfriend Christina (RSXTina) for her patience with me and my obsession.

WARCOVENANT

This is a pic of the donor chasis. It is a 1998 civic coupe DX model. The car has NO power options, no sunroof, NO A/C. To the best of my knowledge, this is the lightest coupe. Since my father gave it to me with only 70K on it.. and since he is retired and 62 years old and kept the car VERY clean, this is an IDEAL project car.

This pic was taken today as Hybridkoop and I pulled the old motor out and then stripped the front end for a 99/00 front end conversion to be done at a further date.

This is a pic of the K20A2. It came from an 04 RSX-S. The car was in a massive front end collision with a tree that totalled the vehicle. The driver allegedly had no insurance so he 'dumped it' at the towing place where it sat for months. The company's owner (private owner) decided to list it on ebay. this is how it came to be in my possession.

As you can see I have already added a JDM DC5 Valve cover. The transmission is not shown in the picture because it is currently at the tranny shop being repaired and having a JDM DC5 LSD installed. During the accident, an axle broke and punctured a hole about the size of a quarter in the tranny case. I originally had planned to weld the hole and patch it up..(internals are mint) but I was very fortunate to have my friend Sikciv666 hook me up with a completely new tranny case! I was told (by the tranny shop) that if i was considering LSD, NOW would be the time to do it because they would install it for no additional cost.. so... what the hell, its only another 500 bucks right?? lol
The LSD should be here any day.. Once it comes back.. and as long as its not freezing cold, EVERYTHING will get a thorough cleaning. as you can see in the pic, the longblock definitely needs it.

for a usdm k20a2 swap you'll want to use a ep3 throttle cable, for type r jdm k20a's you'll want to use the 96-00 dx throttle cable

you'll want to use the RSX-S clutch slave cylinder & you can get a custom clutch line from suja1 motoring for $40 (www.k20a.org)

for rad hoses - the upper RSX-S or '06+ si can be used (needs 'lil triming) & you can use the upper '99-00 si rad hose as the lower hose.
