k20A VS K20A2

k20A VS K20A2
Im looking to do a k20 swap but im not sure which engine. I know the k20a has 20 more horse and probably wont pass smog unless i modify it. The k20a2 isnt that bad but has 20 horses less, should pass smog and probably cheaper to buy then the jdm one. I just wanna here some other opinions about it. Im leaning more towards the k20a2 because it will save me like 2k and that 2k can be used for mounts and some aftermarket parts. I know it wont be hard to get that extra 20 horses i just want some other opinions to help give me an idea on which one i should look into more.

Yea but with the K20a you also get a better trans, better FD and LSD.You also get 11.5:1 vs 11:1 compression. In my opinion the K20a will be better.Throw KPRO on it and a good tuner you can get 230hp out of it.

You'd get a shorter gearing ratio transmission, which is not necessarily "better", since the K20A2's is too short in first and second gear already. And, as I've already explained, you could easily get a nicer set of pistons than the K20A's and get similar/better power figures for that extra money. The only thing I'd say that there would be an advantage to the K20A, is the LSD... which you can get in the aftermarket.

unless the k20a is around $1000 in the same price range dont bother. sure its got more horse, and lsd.. but ill bet a year down the road your going to want more power anyways.
personally, id go k20a2. save the 2k. you can get lsd for $750 or less, and have that much more to boost

Re: (toyomatt84)
well the funny part is that you can buy a "metal lathe"
anf a bseries lsd for the price of a kseries quaife lsd...or a jdm kseries lsd trans
http://toolsandmore.us/index.a...=1542
...ofcourse u can always take it to a machine shop.

what car would this be going in? case if it's going in to a dc/eg/ek/da blah blah blah.. it wont pass smog regardless if you go with a k20a or a k20a2 unless you change out the fuel system from a rsx.
as far as choosing weather to go with a k20a or k20a2 it depends on what your plans are if you plan to keep it with stock internals then i do the k20a. but if you plan on building it go with the k20a2 cause the money you save towards the k20a motor you can use on the k20a2.
ps. i love the k20a tranny
hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. I've been looking for a small lathe for smaller projects.

i beg to diffeR. i put a k20 engine into my DC2 and it passed smog like a champ. the secret is getting k pro to do the leg work for you. it can be set to tell the tester's computer that car "x" has engine "x" in it. you get a pass and everyone is happy.
